Frequently Asked Questions

How Often Should I Service my Car?

It depends on the vehicle and the service required; however, many mechanics and car manufacturers recommend having a full service every year or every 12,000 miles (whichever comes first). There are other types of maintenance and services that may be required these include:

Regular Maintenance: Whenever an oil change is required
Interim Service: Every 6 Months or 6,000 miles
Full Service: Every 12 Months or 12,000 miles
Manufacturer Service: Check your Car Manual

How Often Should I Get my Oil Changed?

It used to be normal to change the oil every 3,000 miles, but with modern lubricants most engines today have recommended oil change intervals of 5,000 to 7,500 miles. Moreover, if your car’s engine requires full-synthetic motor oil, it might go as far as 15,000 miles between services!

How Often Should I Check my Vehicle's Fluid Levels?

We recommend inspecting your car’s fluids once each month to ensure the fluids are clean and at a sufficient level. This is a maintenance check you can easily do yourself at home but topping off any fluids that are low may require a trip to the store.

How Often Should I Change my Air Filter?

Check your owner’s manual; it should tell you when your air filter should be replaced. This is generally every 12,000 to 15,000 miles, depending on your vehicle. If you have driven more than that since the last time you replaced the air filter, it’s probably time to get it changed.

How Often Should I Replace my Brake Pads?

As a general rule, you should get your brake pads replaced every 10,000 to 20,000 miles to keep wear to a minimum. When it comes to your rotors, you have a bit longer. Your rotors should be replaced between 50,000 and 70,000 miles to keep your brakes in peak health.

How Often Should I Replace my Car Battery?

General wisdom says you should replace your car battery about every three years, but many factors can influence its lifespan. You might need a new battery before the three-year mark depending on the climate where you live and your driving habits.

How Often Should I Replace my Car Tyres?

How long should my tyres last? On average, most tyres are sufficient to drive for around 20,000 to 30,000 miles. Tyres that are ten years’ old should be replaced to ensure your car is safe to drive. You can find out when your tyres were produced by reading the markings on the sidewall of the tyre.

When Does my Car need its MOT?

MOTs are required annually on any car over 3 years old (though there are exceptions to this rule). To check if your car needs an MOT and the exact date you can use the below .gov website: https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-status

Does my MOT renew from the day I get my MOT?

An MOT renews from the date that your MOT is due if the MOT is completed within 30 days of the MOT expiring. This makes it so you are not losing out by delaying your MOT to the final day. If you complete the MOT before the 30 days cut off it renews from the date the MOT was completed and the same holds true for having your MOT completed before the due date.
